The Metricath® System is a patented catheter-based
technology that allows interventional cardiologists and radiologists
to precisely measure arterial and stent lumen size during interventional
treatment of coronary and peripheral artery disease. These measurements
assist physicians in their selection and use of interventional devices,
such as stents.
The Metricath System uses a compact console
unit and a disposable balloon-tipped catheter, which provide significant
technical, operational and cost saving advantages over current offerings
available on the market. Metricath catheters come in two varieties:
Metricath Libra® measure-only
catheters and Metricath Gemini®
measure-and-treat catheters.
The Metricath System has received FDA clearance
for sale in the United States and European CE Mark approval. Feedback
from interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists and
vascular surgeons indicates that the Metricath System has the potential
to become a “standard of practice” for angioplasty procedures
and has particular value in conjunction with the utilization of
drug eluting stents.
